My Portfolio and Blog

I wanted a place to put up my webdesign portfolio to establish a professional presence online. I had already begun a blog but I wanted a place to showcase my work as well so people could see what I was capable of.

A Dark and Mysterious Brand

PD Martin is a Crime Fiction author from Australia. She wanted a dark and mysterious design that would accentuate "PD Martin" as a brand and would focus more on her image than her book covers to give her readers a feel for her style. She emphasized the communication of a strong brand to draw in more readers and build sales over time.

A Non-profit Orphanage Ministry

Enfold Ministry is a non-profit ministry based in Florida that does work in orphanages in Haiti. They wanted a design that would reflect the work of God and have a little Caribbean style. I chose these blues and greens to represent the blue of the ocean and the green of the trees in that area.

A Place to Call Home

AICF labels itself as a "Place to Call Home" and reaches out to the international community in Jeonju, Korea. As such, they wanted a professional and friendly feel for their website. The head pastor found this Multiflex Theme online, and I modified it to fit the church's needs. I added a new horizontal top menu, a "widescreen" CSS style sheet, and I transferred all the content from the old site to this one. We're still looking forward to incorporating a CMS (Content Management System) of some kind in the future.

Kolorful Korea

I wanted to create a website that would reflect Korea in its style, colors, and feel. The colors in Korea are very bright, and I chose an image of the most famous Korean drum for inspiration for the pattern at the top of this page and on the menu. It is my goal to improve on this design and eventually release it (among other Korean themes) as WordPress designs for foreign teachers and other bloggers in Korea.

A Place to Podcast

I installed Wordpress to allow for quick updates on sermons and for Podcasting of the sermons. There was no Wordpress theme that matched the AICF Homepage, so I modified this similar Wordpress theme to match the original style of the AICF Homepage.

My Personal Schedule

Last summer I got quite busy with studying Korean and TaeKwonDo and teaching English full-time. I also rode my bike to work most days and I wasn't able to spend much time at home to collect my thoughts. Therefore, I wanted a place to look quickly at what I had to do for the day, and also to see the weather forecast so I could be better prepared. This site should automatically detect the day of the week and display that day and is color-coded differently depending on the day.

My First Web Design Experience

I was given this the privilege to design this webpage during my Sophomore year of College. It was my very first experience with web design and I learned a lot about FrontPage and HTML code by simply modifying and playing with the code that was already up. This isn't an actual screenshot, merely a visual representation of what I remember from the design. Since the site went down in 2005, it has been about 4 years since I've seen it, so I made a quick mock-up from the best of my memory. I wanted something to remember my first real go at websites.

There you have my personal web design gallery from 2002-Present. There are yet a number of sites I've not added because they aren't "hand-made" (or hand-edited) like these are. I've been reading a lot about web accessibility lately, and smacking my head over the inaccessibility of a lot of Korean websites due to their reliance on ActiveX. I hope to use what I'm learning to provide Korea with a better set of designs and standards for the Internet -> but it will be a big job.
